Are Sneakers the NEW Stiletto?

01/12/2019

If you've been tuning in to the runway fashion and street styles at various fashion week shows, then you know sneakers have been all the rage.  All over the globe, celebrities are pairing the athletic shoe style with elevated and high fashion ensembles more than ever before.

It's no longer casual airport looks or athleisure outfits that celebs choose to wear with sneakers. From dresses to power suits to voluminous maxi skirts and evening gowns. Our style icons are trading their sky high heels for a more outside of the box option that takes their looks from basic to banging.

As this footwear trend continues to gain momentum, it leaves us questioning: Are sneakers the NEW stiletto?

Thanks in part to the godfathers of luxury fashion Balenciaga, Chanel and Gucci who debuted the infamous "dad shoe" at their spring menswear shows which were quickly spotted on the soles of many female street style bloggers and celebrities.

These women used the traditionally masculine sneaker style to make powerful statements by wearing them with the most feminine pieces in their closets.
This wide spread "rejection" of what is perceived as traditionally masculine or feminine took the social media and fashion world by storm as more and more people begin to adopt the ironic style statement.

Overall, it seems that, "Women's footwear is in a bit of an interesting moment, because the high heel is losing currency, and the sneaker trend is not going away anytime soon."
